While Manton Bradley Metcalf had acquired the Sachem not long before the First World War, he would continue to use it with his family until his death in 1923. After almost 2 years under military service, the Sachem was converted back to a private steam yacht.

From 1919, the Sachem was a popular yacht, registered in New York and sailing in Long Island Sound, Rhode Island Sound and Narragansett Bay near Providence, RI.

With the opulence and friendliness of the Metcalf family, the yacht had a colorful life in the early 1920’s.
